Install MLDesigner

The MLDesigner License

Obtain a License

The license is built for a specific workstation and MLDesigner will not be activated without a valid license. You will receive a license via e-mail with installation instructions after sending a license request containing the required information - Host name, Host ID and Host sys (Operating System) by using the web interface at:

http://www.mldesigner.com/support/get-a-license.html

The license is multi-line text that will arrive embedded in a larger text file. Scroll to the bottom of the text file to find the license. It should look like the example below.

#Note: you can edit the host name on the SERVER line (1st arg)
#      or the (optional) daemon path on the VENDOR line (2nd arg).

Copy the text between the two --CUT HERE-- lines and paste it to a file. Save the file in your home directory (we recommend name license.dat.)

The license daemon is a system tool. Running the installation and maintenance of the license daemon must be done as root.

Install the License with mldlminst

To install the license file, log in as root, switch to the directory where the file is saved and execute the command:

    mldlminst <license_file>

where <license_file> stands for the name of file where you stored your license, e.g., /home/you/license.txt. The mldlminst command shuts down any running license daemon,  installs the license file and restarts the license daemon. You must confirm this action before the installation can proceed. The installation also creates the script S99mld in directory /etc/init.d/rc3.d or /etc/init.d/rc5.d that is executed automatically when you reboot your system or when change the runlevel to 3 or 5.

After installation of the license file, a log is printed reporting the success or failure of the procedure.NOTE: It is not advisable to manually copy the file into your MLD directory. You are now ready to start MLDesigner.

Install the License Using the Graphical Install Shield

If you are in possession of a license file but have not yet installed MLDesigner, you can use the install license option in the installer program once the copy procedure has been finished. If you received the license file later, you do not need to run the complete setup again. The installation of the license fie of the graphical setup does almost the same as command mldlminst, except stop and restart of the license daemon. In this case, you must execute the following command to stop and restart the FlexLM license daemon after installation of the license file

    mldlmgrd restart

This will shutdown any running license daemon and start a new license daemon.
