Install MLDesigner

Install MLDesigner as Superuser (root)

To install MLDesigner we recommend you log in as root and proceed as follows.

When you are logged in as normal user and you use the su command to become root,  please used command  ´su -´. Using su command without ´-´ might lead to installation problems.

Step 1

If you received MLDesigner on a CD-ROM, insert it into your CD-ROM/DVD drive.  Usually the operating system will automatically mount the disk.

If you have downloaded MLDesigner as a CD-Image (ISO/RAW file), please mount it as IS0-9660 file system. Open a terminal session and enter the following line:

    user@s23$ mount -t iso9660 /path/to/imagefile.raw /path/to/mountfolder -o loop

If you have downloaded MLDesigner as tar archive, extract the archive within a temporary directory.

Step 2

Change to the directory where the CD-ROM was mounted or where you have extracted the archive file.

Step 3

Execute the graphical installer with the command ./setup. This command will bring up the installation dialog.

Click on the start screen to proceed with the installation of MLDesigner.

When installing MLDesigner on newer architectures (like SuSE 10.2) the message ´Qt: Locales not supported on X Server´ is displayed. This is only a warning message and it can be ignored.

Step 4

The installer program will present the Software License Agreement. Read it carefully and select ´Accept´ to continue the installation or ´Decline´ to exit (no data will be written on your system if you decline).

Step 5

The installer program will present the default installation directory and offer you the opportunity to specify an alternative directory. Click "Browse" to choose a directory if you want to install MLDesigner in a directory other than the default /usr/local/mld2.

Click on the OK button when you have selected the installation directory.

If you are not logged in as root, make sure you have write permission for the relevant directory.

The contents of an existing directory will be deleted. If you are upgrading or reinstalling MLDesigner, the installer deletes all program files in the chosen directory when you click the OK button. If you are upgrading or reinstalling MLDesigner your original license file is saved and restored in the new MLDesigner directory. The program now checks all files on the CD. Program files will now be copied. A status indicator will show the progress of the copying process. This could take some time depending on your system.

To cancel or interrupt the installation press CTRL+C or close the shell. In this case the install program will leave unused files in the directory where you want the MLDesigner  to be installed in, including any backup of the license file called license.dat in the /tmp directory.

After successfully copying all files, the information necessary to get a license file from  MLDesign Technologies, Inc. is displayed. This information is saved in your MLDesigner installation directory, under licenseinfo.txt and must be sent to MLDesigner via our web interface. The information that are required, before a license can be issued are:

  • host name
  • host id
  • host sys (Operating System)

Use the web interface to request a license (you have to login on the webpage before)

Step 6

If you are in possession of a new license (usually called license.dat), press the install license button. If you have just upgraded MLDesigner to the latest version and the installer had made a backup of your old license - or if you have not yet received your license - click the "OK" button.
